Eric Garcia is the latest Barcelona defender to be rule out indefinitely after suffering plantar fasciitis.
Barcelona confirm on Tuesday that Eric Garcia is the latest defender to be rule out for a period of time after the 24-year-old centre-back suffer a plantar fasciitis in his right foot, Ufabet Sport reports.
The Azulgrana have lost Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, who were injury and had to rest for at least four months before this. The former had to undergo surgery to fix a torn hamstring, while the latter had problems with his Achilles tendon. Most recently, Eric Garcia, the center for the Spanish national team that won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, has had to rest for further treatment.
‘First-team player Eric Garcia has suffered a right plantar fasciitis. His progress will determine when he will be able to return to training,’ a Barca statement said.
Barcelona sent Eric Garcia to Girona on loan Promotion Ufabet last season, although the two clubs were reportedly in talks again and discussed a €15m move for the 24-year-old centre-back, but the injury likely ruled out a move as it is unclear how long he will need to recover.
Hansi Flick currently only has Pau Gubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Jules Kounde as options at centre-back, having previously had eight players in that position before Araujo, Christensen and Eric Garcia were injury, while Mikhail Faye and Clement Lenglet mov to Rennes and Atletico Madrid respectively.
But the German coach can also call upon the services of two centre-backs, Sergi Dominguez and Andres Cuenca, from the youth team in an emergency.
